Update Aug 26: Mediated tentative agreement between Air Canada and CUPE was reached Aug 19. The workers are set to take part in a ratification vote between Aug. 27 and Sept. 6. CUPE ignored Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, which ordered the workers to go back to work, a defiant move that “amazed” Air Canada and the government. Other labour unions with the Canadian Labour Congress supported the workers of Air Canada. The Canadian public, while inconvenienced, supported the campaign of workers of Air Canada to end unpaid work. 10,000 flight attendants made history for airline workers and stood up to Canada’s federal government and one of the largest companies in the country to end unpaid work.
Migrante BC | August 18, 2025
Migrante BC stands in full solidarity with the Flight Attendants of Air Canada in their struggle for fair treatment, dignity, and justice at work. As migrant workers and families, we know that the fight of Air Canada workers is the fight of all working people—whether Canadian-born or migrant.
We appeal to the public for support and understanding of their strike and collective action. Workers deserve to be heard, not silenced.

We strongly condemn the government’s decision to impose a return-to-work order. This mirrors the same repressive tactics in the Philippines, where the state routinely issues “assumption of jurisdiction” orders to break strikes and deny workers their democratic right to collective action. Such actions only serve the interests of corporations while undermining the rights of workers.

The struggle of Air Canada workers is part of the broader struggle for justice for all workers. Migrante BC stands with them—because when workers rise, we all rise! ###
