While Filipinos Reel from Typhoon Crising, Marcos Jr. Deepens Subservience to U.S. Imperialism
As Typhoon Crising lashes across the Philippines, leaving communities submerged, livelihoods destroyed, and thousands displaced, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is thousands of miles away—shaking hands with imperialists, selling off our sovereignty, and deepening military and economic subservience to the United States.
Instead of leading disaster response efforts and mobilizing government resources to aid the people, Marcos Jr. is in Washington D.C. negotiating expanded military agreements under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), begging for trade concessions, and further entrenching foreign control over our economy and territory. His absence amid the calamity is not just irresponsible—it is criminal negligence.
The Marcos regime’s main agenda in this state visit is clear:
* Secure military deals that allow more U.S. troops, weapons, and bases under the pretext of “security cooperation”
* Beg for economic crumbs while allowing U.S. companies to exploit Philippine resources and labor
* Sell the Philippines as a pawn in U.S. efforts to militarize the Indo-Pacific region against China
All of these while millions of Filipinos suffer under extreme poverty, landlessness, and the worsening climate crisis that his government is utterly unprepared for.
We say: Enough!
This is not diplomacy—it is betrayal.
This is not leadership—it is puppetry.
This is not for the national interest—it is for U.S. imperialist interest.
BAYAN Canada stands with the Filipino people in denouncing this treacherous visit. We reject the militarization of our country under EDCA. We oppose the continued plunder of our economy through neoliberal trade deals. And we hold the Marcos regime accountable for its abandonment of the people in their time of greatest need.
We call on all Filipino organizations and communities across Canada to raise their voices:
* Oppose U.S. military presence in the Philippines!
* Reject the Marcos regime’s puppet governance!
* Demand immediate and comprehensive disaster response for the victims of Typhoon Crising!
* Advance the struggle for genuine national sovereignty and people’s democracy!
U.S. Out of the Philippines!
