Katribu Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas strongly condemns the abduction of Felix “Jun” Salaveria Jr. and urgently demands his immediate surfacing. Salaveria was forcibly taken from his home in Tabaco, Albay, on August 28, 2024, just five days after the disappearance of his cycling companion, 63-year-old James Jazmines. James is the younger brother of National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) consultant Alan Jazmines. His abduction is part of the state’s modus operandi to locate his brother. Both Salaveria and Jazmines are believed to have been abducted by state agents, given their long-standing involvement in the people’s movement since Martial Law.

Felix Salaveria, aged 66, is a staunch advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights. He is a founding member of Kabataan para sa Tribung Pilipino and Tunay na Alyansa ng Bayan Alay sa mga Katutubo (TABAK). His advocacy has spanned decades, focusing on the rights of Indigenous Peoples and marginalized communities.

Salaveria is also well-known as an environmental defender. He actively promotes sustainable transportation, advocating for bicycling as an eco-friendly alternative. He is also involved in campaigns on eco-waste management and is a founding member of Cycling Advocates (CYCAD).

Salaveria is cherished within his communities. The organizations he helped establish and numerous others are tirelessly campaigning for his safe surfacing. His family, especially daughters, Isya and Gab, are appealing to the public to help locate their father.

This is the 15th state-enforced disappearance under the administration of Marcos Jr., who continues the bloody legacy of his dictator father. Marcos Jr.’s regime actively targets Indigenous rights defenders, such as the case of Dexter Capuyan and Bazoo de Jesus who were abducted last year on April 28. His regime perpetuates a political climate that targets human rights defenders, silences dissent, and suppresses criticism of government policies. As the economic crisis deepens and social unrest grows, instead of addressing the root causes of resistance—armed or otherwise—Marcos Jr. responds with tyranny and repression.

Katribu calls on everyone to join the search for Felix Salaveria, James Jazmines, Dexter, Bazoo, and all other Desaparecidos. We must hold the state and its security forces accountable for these human rights violations. Stop enforced and involuntary disappearances!
