Montreal, December 3, 2024– Multi-Monde is proud to announce the upcoming theatrical release of *My Friend the Terrorist, A Tale of Love and Revolution*, a new feature documentary by directors Malcolm Guy and Demetri Estdelacropolis. This captivating film tells the deeply personal and political story of Jose Maria Sison, a revolutionary figure exiled for decades, and his enduring love for both his country and his wife, Julie.

The film offers an unparalleled glimpse into the life of a man deemed a ‘terrorist’ by many authorities and celebrated as a hero by others, as well as the complexities of his legacy.

Synopsis

*My Friend the Terrorist* delves into the lives of Jose Maria Sison, a founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its military wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), and his wife Julie De Lima, a leading member of the CPP. Forced into exile in Utrecht, Netherlands, for the past 35 years, Sison and his wife Julie navigate a hand-to-mouth existence while their love story and ideology continue to inspire and spark controversy. With exclusive footage and intimate interviews, this documentary unpacks the complexities of activism, sacrifice, and resilience against the backdrop of global and personal challenge

About the filmmakers

Malcolm Guy is an award-winning director and producer, well-known for his work addressing local and international justice issues. His films have tackled topics ranging from the plight of migrant workers to global human rights struggles, reflecting his commitment to amplifying voices from the margins.

Demetri Estdelacropolis, an accomplished filmmaker since the 1980s, brings a unique and experimental vision to his storytelling. His works, including cult classics and internationally recognized films, balance artistic innovation with social commentary.
